SAN FRANCISCO, CA — With more San Francisco theaters closing lately, the Roxie Cinema was looking for ways to steer clear of that path. They think they might have given themselves some wiggle room with a possible beer license.

One of my favorites and best ‘indie’ cinemas around San Francisco. They certainly know how to book the right flicks. As for a booze license?… I’ll drink to that… hick!
I haven’t been in Downtown Frisco in more than 20 years but I remembered the nice movie theatres it had back then. So sad that most people in the Bay Area when they go out they go to the malls to see a movie since the parking is plentiful and free.
Don’t know the crowd that attends, but serving Beer could lead to trouble if not policed right.
A lot of theatres nationwide are serving beer and wine these days, to people who’re of age, of course. Good luck to the Roxy Theatre in its endeavors to stay open. Hope they monitor the situation by asking people who want beer for their I. D.’s before they serve them.
Right MPOL,My son worked a Similar Theatre in Arlington.Texas and was attacked when he cut off the guys BEER,Different Town and Theatre I know, but when I managed 74-83 most of my trouble came from drunks, and In those days there were not Police working off hour duties. The Managers and Doormen had to handle it,Pity it has to mix to get moviegoers.
I hope the new gang at The Roxie can get out with a tree trim guy and do a cut job on the tree in front, as you can’t see the lower part of the marquee. Plus please turn off the over the head lights above the screen as all the previews have these lights on the screen. Let’s hope they get a full booze permit then I can go and have a tropical Zombie rum drink with crushed ice and watch a old horror film. Bring on the tropical drinks and bring back the little blue lights on the side walls at SF’s Roxie.
This works out well for the Somerville, Brattle, and Coolidge here around Boston, so go for it.
I agree Ron,if it will help them stay open give it a try.The Franklin Theatre near me has a full bar and beer too,As far as I know little or no trouble, the patrons want to see a movie or show and have a few drinks, most are not there to get wasted.
