Ten screen theater set for downtown Bremerton

BREMERTON, WA — After eight years of effort by developers, a ten-screen multiplex appears to be on track for a summer 2012 opening here. See-Film LLC of Seattle expects to begin construction this July.

Blissett said having 10 screens will allow the theater to keep movies that remain popular for weeks, showing them in smaller rooms rather than cycling them to make room for new blockbusters. Having more screens also makes it possible to offer art house films, he said.

For now the managing partners are considering an exterior look that imitates a ship’s hull or some other theme related to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, said Blissett, who has designed other movie theaters as an architect at The Design Collective in Seattle. The company also plans to have a film-themed coffee shop on the corner of Park and Burwell.

The final design has not been selected, but a possible exterior design sketch is included in this article from the Kitsap Sun.

Downtown Bremerton is a waste. There is absolutely no parking. There would need to be at least four parking garages to make going downtown worth anything.
Besides, the area is already served by the Regal South Sound 10, AMC Silverdale 8, Regal Silverdale 4, Regal Poulsbo 10 and the independently owned 3 screen Rodeo Drive-in theater. Even the twin screen “Historic Orchard” (formerly called the Plaza Twin) arthouse theater had to close because they just couldn’t make it. The area is overscreened. There’s simply too many theaters.

Ken… The news I learned of, back in January, was of a multi-story parking garage complete with a numerous screen cinema complex plus assorted eateries, all to be located on the roof of the garage.

Bremerton does have parking issues but people should make more of an effort to cruise the block for a stall. I always did this in San Francisco!

With a massive US Navy audience residing in Bremerton and Port Orchard, I feel there should be more of an effort to offer our Armed Forces a discounted admission.

I feel it’s a shame about the now closed Port Orchard twin cinemas but much of their programming lacked motion pictures of interest and/or notable star quality. They should have brought back a variety of movies from previous decades, especially those we missed or want to see again when formerly on general release.

What say you folks?
