OAK PARK, IL — The historic Lake Theatre, at 1022 Lake Street, is showcasing a Classic 1936 Film Series in celebration of its milestone 75th anniversary. Each film is presented on the second Monday of every month, at 1 PM and 7 PM. The next film in the series, “After the Thin Man,” is slated for Monday, November 14, 2011. Movie admission is $5, and tickets are available at the Lake Theatre box office.

This movie in particular is an example of the art deco period with its sets and high style clothes. To learn more about art deco architecture, style and what we can still appreciate, a member of the Chicago Art Deco Society will have information available before and after the movie.

In November, William Powell and Myrna Loy are back, reprising their roles as Nick and Nora Charles of Thin Man fame. This time, they are in the second of the series of six “Thin Man” films called “After the Thin Man,” also starring James Stewart. The film is based on a story written by Dashiell Hammett and directed by W.S. Van Dyke. The plot finds Nick, Nora and Asta, the lovable terrier, seeking out a murderer from Nora’s own blue-blooded relatives.

“After the Thin Man” is a fast-paced mystery with a witty script and the popular Powell/Loy charm. Double–crosses, betrayals and unlikely clues lead to the true culprit, and the Charles’ solve the case. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Writing, Screenplay, it is considered the best of the Thin Man sequels. Johhny Depp currently has a film project in development to remake the “Thin Man” with him playing Nick Charles.

Mark your calendars for the final film of the 1936 Classic Film Series, “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town,” slated for Monday, December 12th at 1 and 7 PM.
