POMPTON LAKES, NJ – Episode 4, of the reality series Colonial Twin Follies depicts a theater in dire straights. A building in disrepair, a projector plagued with technical difficulties, disgruntled customers, not to mention the callous crew! Watch it all unfold, in an episode I thought my friends at Cinema Treasures would appreciate. Enjoy. And Happy Holidays to all!
(May you all paint your masterpiece in memories!)

If I remember correctly Last Action Hero was “such a mega hit” at the Colonial for the first week they had it on both screens! That and I remember the Colonial having reel to reel projection.

There’s a few reasons the place didn’t/couldn’t survive: newer plexes around in Kinnelon (the worst movie theater in the country in terms of projection) and Wayne (circa that time getting upgraded from 8 to 14 screens). Not to mention the place was a bit run down, musty, ect. Downtown Pompton Lakes barely had any activity: if they some how could have encouraged more businesses like restaurants to open up, The Colonial might have sustained itself.

This sounds like a sad, sad story.

Not only does this sound like a sad, sad story, but the attitudes, actions and behaviors on the part of the crew is a good indication of what a lot of the crews who work in the backrooms of movie theatres have become these days; an added indication of today’s American work ethic. Sad, sad, sad indeed.

We were young and callous, that’s for sure.
Unfortunately, it gets a whole lot worse! So, if you think you can bear to watch, brace yourself, and stay tuned…
