NEW YORK, NY — I was just told by staff there that the Paris and the Beekman (Formerly NY 1 + 2) Theaters have been leased to City Cinemas, and to look for a lot of changes…
Have the theaters actually been leased or are they just being booked / managed by City Cinemas? I assume if this is the case the same programing will remain along with the same site management. While City Cinemas has been closing properties in NYC, it’s parent company has grown significantly acquiring sites in Northern California and Hawaii. If they are smart and book the theaters like they do the Angelika, don’t show the same boring pre-show, keep the same presentation standards (I rarely have complaints about the Angelika and Village East) and keep the same staff, hopefully the only changes will be the popcorn.
The Paris is a real treat of a theater to attend: comfortable, beatiful, well programed with flawless presentation. I don’t think City Cinemas will be booking GI Joe there anytime soon.
These theaters were previously leased to other movie chain operators, as the Introductions make clear. The owner always made sure they operated as he saw appropriate. I assume there’s only one “Jacobs” so if same man who was already doing the film booking, there may not be any changes for customers.
I like the Paris popcorn, and hope that doesn’t change.
I’m confused. You implied above that City Cinemas is run by Jacobs. So, if Jacobs was already booking & managing these 2 theaters, what difference will happen now?
This how it works——JACOBS ENT MANAGED and BOOKED the theater directly for the owner of the building for the last 14 years. Now CITY CINEMAS is renting the space and booking and running it them selves.

What kind of changes? I hope the Paris doesn’t change at all!
Not good City Cinemas seems to be winding down selling off its properties.
This is not good news at all.
Watch these 2 bite the dust soon.
Ouch!!
Sad news as they are going on the cheap! City Cinemas is a Joke….. Run by JACOBS ENTERTAINMENT FOR THE LAST 14 YEARS!

NO.NO—-DIFFERENT CO…..
I was told they signed a long lease. Jacobs is not part of city cinemas. The projectionist union is now picketing outside both theaters.

Jacobs still books BAM in Brooklyn.
