Sony and RealD to provide 3D digital cinema system

Sony Electronics and RealD have announced that they will be working together to provide 3D digital cinema systems for exhibitors. The system is designed for Sony’s 4K digital cinema projectors.

this was to defray the need to purchase Texas Instruments 3D DLP units at the theatres that featured all Sony units (i.e, Muvico Rosemont)
Note to Sony: Call me when ya’ll can install it on screens up to 80ft in width. That’s when this realD will really look good.
and that’s the one aspect where 4K is supposed to excel at, non-pixelation on very large screens – they should be at this point be making systems that can be implemented onto screens between 55 – 80 feet. If a digital system can ever be utilized or installed on DC’s Uptown’s 75ft screen, a 4K Sony system would be the most ideal.
oops the Uptown screen is 70ft for scope films, not 75 (maybe for 2.55 AR films)
Don’t you think it would be a generous gesture of Sony to DONATE this awesome system to the small private/independent cinemas and let the giants pay for their own… hmmmmmm?
Still need more light on the screen.
I love the sony 4k system……..looks great
It was used on Quantum of Solace, which I’ll buy on bluray just to watch the movie the way it was shot.
‘some’ shots were shot with 4K cameras for QUANTUM, I know of only movie that was shot completely in 4K and that was LeVar Burton’s REACH FOR ME.

so which is it AMC?: their objectives seem to change with the wind, national rollout of DLP digital projection (hmm that stalled)… AMC installing IMAX-Digital to more theatres, uh…strike two… AMC and RealD, it comes full circle… well which? Get your priorities sorted AMC, what a cluster[expletive].
AMC theaters with Sony 4K projectors now have RealD 3D installed. At least two screens per theater were retrofitted.
So far, no word on when my local theater will have RealD equipped. I would love to see the new Up movie in 3D!!!
