EAST GREENVILLE, PA — The Grand’s 5th Annual Christmas Tradition Show starts Friday, December 11th. This year our feature is the 1934 classic “Babes in Toyland” starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy presented in its original Black and White!

Our 1923 Marr and Colton Theater organ will be played by our house organist, Mr. Carl Black with Christmas music for thirty minutes prior to each showtime. The 2 manual, 6 rank organ will feature the organ’s latest addition: a rank of extremely rare tuned sleigh bells!

We are also continuing a long-lost tradition of local single-screen movie houses – a free admission night to thank all of our customers for their patronage during the past year. Our Free Night is Wednesday, December 16th at 7PM. Seats are on a first come basis. A canned food item benefiting The Open Line is encouraged.

About the Grand:
October 4, 1924 – The original owners of the Grand wanted the most modern and beautiful theater in the Upper Perkiomen Valley, but in 2004 after several owners, remodeling jobs, and even a name change, the Grand was in such disrepair that the theater closed its doors for what was thought to be forever in March 2004. Souderton Realtor Ed Buchinski, who specializes in preserving and restoring historical buildings, together with his partner on the project, Mr. John Schortz of Bethlehem, the latest and best chapter of the Grand was started on August 20, 2004 when they purchased the building and embarked on a painstaking restoration back to its 1924 appearance. Now considered the crown jewel of the Upper Perkiomen Valley, the Grand boasts: $5 evening admission and $3 matinee admission. Surroundings nothing like the megaplexes – the Grand is indeed GRAND! No pre-show advertising! You pay for the movie – NOT COMMERCIALS! Professional staff with 1920’s era uniforms. Children’s matinees and select classic, cult, and silent films! The Grand boasts the best sound system in all of Eastern Pennsylvania – a 12,000 watt, $50,000 dts Digital Surround System! Supplementing the state-of-the-art sound system, The Grand also is the home of a relic from the by-gone era of silent films, a fully restored 1923 Marr & Colton 2 Manual, 6 Rank Theater Pipe Organ, used for special events and weekend pre-show entertainment.

Congratulations to all of you at the Grand Theatre… you have certainly “Put The Show Back Into Show Business.” This is what going to the movies is all about; professionalism, fair pricing and an enjoyable picture. The organ must sound fabulous.

Another teaser, to passers-by, would be to re-broadcast your audio of film and organ from the marquee.

I’ve always used the above phrase for my little 30-seater Bijou home cinema here in Oregon and invite family, friends and neighbors in for one-weekly free classic films, popcorn and the Hammond organ.

Good Luck and loooooooooooong may your GRAND place sparkle!

The Grand sounds like an interesting theater. I just hope they are profitable in today’s difficult environment. I too wish them success and a very Merry Christmas season!
