A great promotion is going on to help people see the Obama’s Inauguration in movie theaters for free.
President-elect Barack Obama is on his way to the big screen, thanks to a deal between MSNBC and Screenvision that will put the news channel’s inaugural coverage in 27 theaters around the country.
Free tickets are being handed out via MSNBC.com to see the inauguration and parade from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. ET at the 27 theaters run by 11 exhibitor partners in 21 markets. Midday Tuesday isn’t necessarily a big movie time, so it helps to fill the theater — and boost popcorn and soda sales — at a time when it’s not usually busy.

I really don’t know what to say to this, except that if movie theatres feel the need to broadcast football games, etc., as well as Presidential Inaugurations on their big screens, when people can and often enough do stay home and watch such things on their TV’s, it’s yet another indication, imho, that many of the movie theatres really are in trouble and have decided to do this in order to get some cash flow coming in. It’s the sign of the times, I guess.
MPol, it the communal spirit of the event which makes it different from the home, not the big screen.
If that be the case, though, AlAlvarez, then going to the big movie theatres generally is a communal event. Again, just saying.
