Hey! My name is Jose Juan Garcia and I am currently doing a resaerch about the Drive-in Culture in Puerto Rico. I had found 7 and only 1 is working at the moment. I’m looking for photos and/or information about them. Here is the list so far:
-Auto Cine Santana. Arecibo, PR
-Auto Cine Del Atlantico. Hatillo, PR
-Santa Maria Drive-In. Ponce, PR
– . Carolina, PR
-International Drive In. Bayamon, PR
– . Isabela, PR
-Drive-In de Cobian. Cupey, PR

Interesante! I lived in Puerto Rico for part of the winter of 1966, I loved it! Most Americans don’t even know it’s part of the United States, but it is. If you look on Cinema Treasures under United States, you will see it has Puerto Rico listed as well as America Somoa, Guam, Northern Marianas and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
If anyone has more information on either Auto Cine Santura or International, they are already listed on Cinema Treasures, so I would think it would be better to add the information to those sites and let Jose know about it.
Jose, I see Drive-In de Cobin is also listed on Cinema Treasuers but it is in Cupey not Monacillos. Is it the same Drive-In?
I hope that someone comes up with the names of the Drive-Ins in the towns of Carolina and Isabela.
I would suggest that you add the Drive-Ins not listed on Cinema Treasures to the site because before you know it this query will have slide down the screen and then off to the next screen and on futher back, and you never know how long it will be before someone will just happen to be browsing and happen to know something about these Drive-Ins.

Bernardo:(George Charkiris) “I’d like to go back to San Juan.” “West Side Story”
will have slid down the screen
“I thought I made a mistake once, and then I found out I was wrong!”
Jose,
It may not be the exact name, but the Drive-In at Carolina was known to us locals as the “65 de Infanteria Drive-In”. I believe it was operated by Cobian Theatres. I remember watching “The Sound of Music” there, and was impressed by a huge poster they had for the James Bond flick “You Only Live Twice”.

Hello, I remember there were also a Drive Inn in Bayamon area in road number 2 close to Betances avenue. That place close in the late 80’s. I remember one of the first movies I watched was Jaws I.
As for Ponce, I am not sure the Drive-in there was named “Santa Maria Drive-in” as you have it. I always knew it as the “Ponce Drive-in”. There was a separate theater in Ponce by the name of “Teatro Santa Maria”, but it was not a drive-in. The Ponce Drive-in was located on the SE corner of the intersection of PR-2 (aka, Ponce By-pass) and PR-585 (the road that leads from Los Pampanos to La Playa). There is a Sam’s Club there today (2018). The Santa Maria theater, on the other hand, was located on Calle Ferrocarril, across from the Santa Maria Shopping Center. So, again, I doubt the drive-in in Ponce was called Santa Maria for the simple reason it would be easily confused with the Teatro Santa Maria, a no-no in business.
