Help on theater info

posted by Bree on March 10, 2008 at 7:45 am

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a projectionist at a local movie theater in Memphis, TN. I love my job but since everything is going digital, I don’t know if I’m going to have a job.

I really would love to own my own theatre but I don’t know where to start. I’d even be co-owner of a theatre if anyone knows anyone in the Tennessee area who wants to go in on it.

Please contact me.
Thanks

Some of the info about owning and getting started, can be found here.

Remember owning a theatre is not as easy as it may sound. It takes a lot of money to maintain. But that site is a good start for your reseach.

Digital projectors still need projectionists to run them, maintain them and keep a professional show on the screen. In the meantime, learn the floor operation and you may replace the manager way before he replaces you.

Keep learning and you will never be obsolete.

Hey Memphis, take the advise of AlAlvarez and learn the floor as well. I have been a projectionist now for almost 33 years and for years the guys in my union would be telling me to get out. All the old timers have passed away, but here I am in the only unionized booth left in our local. While I have learned stagecraft, my true love is still projection, and I recently hooked up with a performing arts center that runs old classics on 20 min reels with changeovers. True projection. And I’m involved with another that is renovating and they are planning the same thing. As stated above, you’ll never be obsolete. I go to these 2 arts centers, and I am very much apprectiated for what I do. And THAT is what makes me vow to stick with projection.
