Charlotte multiplex closes after one year

CHARLOTTE, NC — One year after Red Carpet Cinemas reopened the Eastland Mall Cinema, it has closed.
Red Carpet spent several weeks last year upgrading the theater with new seats and digital sound.
However, some people said they weren’t surprised the theater failed. The theater was located on a lower level of the mall and was difficult to find.
“They could have done a better job letting people know it was there,” said one resident. “You had to really work to find it.”
The mall has been struggling for several years as many chains, such as Bath & Body Works and Victoria’s Secret, closed their stores. The mall’s owner walked away from its lease last summer and it has even closed on Mondays to save money.

The same thing happened with the Hollywood Theater in Dormont, PA. It re-opened amid much hoopla after being closed for nearly a decade. But after all the effort that went into renovating it, it shut down again a year later.
Typical of todays world. Costs to much to advertize, so they dont, then they fail.
This kind of thing is worrisome, imho. It makes me wonder what’s going to eventually happen with other single-screened movie palaces that have converted into multi-screen cinemas.
I think the moral of the story is that if you’re going to reopen a closed cinema, you better have a better business plan than the previous owners.
And I bet on the Wrong side of town.
