Hometown theaters struggling

HARMONY, MN — Single-screen hometown theaters in southeast Minnesota are struggling as attendance has been poor due to the economy.
The State Theater in Zumbrota now only opens on the third weekend of every month because of the high cost of heating in this cold part of the country.
At the Kasson State Theater only four customers were viewing a recent Saturday matinee and the owners say there’s been quite a few times when no one has showed up for screenings.
The JEM Theatre in Harmony has been surviving through private parties and and running trivia and video games on the big screen. The theater can be rented for as little as $25 for two hours for private viewings.
