They claim on the Chelse West page that the SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS IS TAKING IT OVER?
Whats happening to the theare business? :(
RobertR, I’m sorry to say, but as a projectionist of 33 years, I’ve seen a lot of changes over the years, but nothing like what is happening now. The movie business is going down the drain as far as I’m concerned. That’s why I am actively switching careers and going into stagehand work. It really hurts to see whats happening.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: as much as the idea sucks, I predict that the movie theater is going to become extinct in the decades to come; to be taken over by straight-to-DVD and computer downloads!
Well. Josh, I’m so sorry to hear that the Chelsea West theater is going to close down and I really feel your pain, bro. If this theater closes, I’m going to remember some of the movies that were shown at the Chelsea West.
WHATS HAPPENING TO THE MOVIE BUISNESS!
Its getting better every day ….BUISNESS IS BOOMING ….3rd year up in box ….last 7 weeks up 4 to 18 % a week…
BSNS THIS WEEK UP 39% OVER LAST YEAR!
Hey longisland,
If you’re going strictly by box office, that may be good…for the studios. How are admissions? Fewer people probably means fewer concessions and less profit for the theatre owners. Dollar falling and energy prices going up can’t help either if you’re an owner.
Admissions is what i am talking about as well as money….
Theaters also do very well when things slow down in USA.
ENERGY AND POPCORN(SEED) PRICES I DO THINK WE NEED TO WATCH.
