Broadway Theatre of Pitman
Pitman, NJ

For decades hundreds of beautiful movie houses dotted the Southern New Jersey landscape, but today only one remains – The Broadway Theatre of Pitman. On this special night, the Broadway pays tribute to the grand palaces and local houses that may be gone, but still hold a place in the hearts and minds of area moviegoers.

This special evening will be a unique trip back in time, and includes:

A special screening of Charlie Chaplin’s silent classic, “Behind The Screen” accompanied by South Jersey Theatre Organ Society members on The Broadway’s original Kimball Organ. The Broadway’s Kimball is the only original theatre organ remaining in all of New Jersey.

A picture tour of classic South Jersey Movie Houses presented by historian, author and projectionist Allen Hauss. The documentary feature, “The Grand Old Lady. ” A film about Haddon Township, NJ’s Westmont Theatre.

Opened in 1927 (a year after The Broadway), The Westmont was home to many great moments in New Jersey film history including the NJ premiere of The Exorcist and an exclusive sneak preview of Kramer vs Kramer attended by Dustin Hoffman. The Westmont was also the theatre where a young Steven Spielberg saw The Greatest Show on Earth, the film that inspired him to become a filmmaker.

Today, The Westmont sits closed, waiting to hear if she will suffer the same fate of so many local theatre’s demolition. In The Grand Old Lady, filmmaker Brent Donaway pays tribute to one of the great palaces of the South Jersey area.
