CHARLESTON, SC — The Terrace Theater at 1956 Maybank Highway was sold last week to Michael Furlinger. Mr. Furlinger started in the movie business in 1982 as an usher for Century Theaters and later went on to become district manager for Cineplex Odeon. For the past 17 years he has owned a chain of gourmet food shops called The Sweet Gourmet.
The Terrace Theater is Charleston’s premier art house and has been in operation for 10 years.

Congrats on your purchase Longislandmovies. Do you have a picture(s) of the Terrace Theater that you can share with the folks on Cinema Treasures?
Can’t seem to locate this house under the name Terrace or in the city of Charleston.
Well done on your choice of restoration decorations -a very pleasant looking environment with a feeling of “welcome to our new show.”
I hope you have lines around the block… keep the fresh popcorn popping and don’t forget to use the curtains -it’s showbusiness!
I was looking for the Cinema Treausures listing.
THANKS FOR ALL THE KIND WORDS! 6 years of looking has payed off….

Congratulations! I like the $7.50 admission fee. If you were in the DC area, I’d be a regular.
lol…. need to change that admission is $8.50…6.50seniors
For an independent theater, the website is one of the best I’ve ever seen – they definitely got their money’s worth. Comprehensive (features and info), attractive (graphics and colors) and well-designed (clarity, navigability and layout), it includes just about everything a thoughtful, desirable theater site should have.
Suggestion: for the “Film Club” page, it should give an initial summary/description of what it is and then hint of specific benefits (if any) that might be included with membership to entice customers to join (examples: free e-newsletter, advance notice of upcoming events and attractions, exclusive screenings, discount tickets, contests, other special offers, etc.). This should appear BEFORE having to click on the “register here” link (some site visitors may not think to look there for this info. or may be reluctant to enter that link). Right now, the page looks “spartan” when it opens (considering how elaborate the rest of the site is).
A great marketing and promotional tool!
Just curious: under “Terrace News” or “Theater Info”, why no mention of “under new management”? (Would revealing this alienate long-time customers?) Why be anonymous? As a new owner, introduce yourself (and your involvement with cinemas) to your customers â€" if you love the business you’re in, then say so – they’re going to find out sooner or later!
There was a lot of news coverage of the sale so many people know …will be doing some work on the web site very soon !
Well one year down and many more to go! What a 1st year………

Congratulations!! So now that you’ve made a success of your new venue, when can we expect a 70mm festival? Let us know, I’ll be happy to drive down for a visit. Your place is closer than driving to England for their annual 70mm fest..provided there was a transatlantic bridge. :)
