AMC vs. Clearview in Morris County

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ — Here’s a link to a story that I read in the Daily Record about the tough movie theater competition between two chains in Morris County, AMC Entertainment and Clearview. It’s a well written article by a young 30-ish guy, Matt Manochio, and I told him why I chose AMC over Clearview due to its close proximity to my hometown in Rockaway, where the chain returned to its roots after a five year absence.

He included some of the people’s opinion about Clearview (which owns most of the theaters in the coutny) and AMC (which owns only two, one of which used to be a Loews/Sony) and put it into today’s article, which is on the front page.

that was real entertaining article. U should read mind on the closing of Pemberton Cinema 4 Vicksburg which occurred at Christmas time down here. This port has fallen on hard times and with the closure of the only one cinema in town; people here have migrated to jackson metro area to see thier movies. But an AMC I heard about.

From what I heard from most people I know, half go to Clearview and half go to AMC. Between these two theaters, AMC gets high marks for its return to Rockaway with bigger screens, surround sound, and food selection, while Clearview gets acclaim for excellent projection (some of which is digital), great film series (classic film programs in Succasunna, matinees for moms with babies, and free kids movies), and that neighborhood feel that sloganizes the chain. No matter how they compete, both chains in the richest county in NJ will strive to provide Morris County residents with the best in Hollywood entertainment, period.

Recently, Clearview has upgraded nearly all of its theaters with digital projection, plush seating, digital sound, and of course raising prices just like AMC. AMC, meanwhile, uses its preshow projection to show met operas (just like some of the Clearviews), ncm fathom programming, and of course, the first look program.

Here’s an update the Pemberton Mall Cinema reopened back in November with a startup cinema called Wilcox Theatres based out of Bastrup,La. The ceo put in state of the art equipment which includes digital sound and digital picture. The startup also did a complete renovation which the old cinema needed. But there are those of us who wondering how long can this new startup remain open. Especially with compitiion from Madison,Ridgeland,Flowood with there larger cinemas. And Tinseltown in Pearl which is stadium cinema.
