Is there a particular time a theater should hold a film before they change over to another one? Do you base that decision on the previous week’s gross, or do you just figure that X amount of time is long enough?
In my opinion, I’d say, generally, 3 to 4 weeks, unless the film is an absolute smash, then perhaps longer to give people extra time and convenience to see it.
When I was a kid in Westhampton Beach, I can remember GREASE staying at the local theater for at least 2 months. My family and I saw it 6 times! And of course, many of us know about LA CAGE AUX FOLLES staying at the 68th Street Playhouse for well over a year. Wow!
Those days just don’t exist anymore, and sadly, they never will again.
In the days before short video windows, you might have gotten away with 3 or 4 weeks. Nowadays, I’d suggest changing every 2 weeks as a way to condition your patrons to come back as often as possible.
So in a city of 250,000 people which already has 3 or 4 multiplexes would it be wise to maybe expand from JUST 2nd run films to maybe 2nd run films PLUS the documentary/foreign films just to shake things up once in a while? It seems that relying only on 2nd run films at a discount price kind of limits your income potential….
One screen 310 seats. As for the shake it up thing, I’d still have the 2nd run films, but would only show them say 4 nights a week and then the others would be previously advertised ‘feature’ films.
We have the local college that has their own theater and they play a mixture of 2nd run and art films, but its on campus and not really promoted to the general public (but they are welcome to attend).
Well now it does depend on what where talking about to give you more we need more need to know how many screen and seat as well as how many show do you run a day weekend and matinees if any but generally if its one screen i would run two different shows and daily one at like 7 the other 9 weekend two each one at like 130 the other at 4 then ya night show if you have more than one screen then you go by what make you the money and how long well heck i ran Indiana Jone’s for 18 weeks yes 18 weeks under contract for 8 but sold out every show every night for 12 weeks and then i still did around 5.000 a week with it so yeah it ran til it dropped dead on the 18 weeks most of my show i ran 2-4 weeks i looked at the market now there’s a lot out there to offer like the 24 pl ex cinema and so on i always gave them smoothing the big house couldn’t and still can’t PERSONALIZED SHOWMAN SHIP

Every 2 weeks unless you have a contract for longer……….
You should be getting more favorable terms on a third week or else, on a single screen, pull it. There is too much product out there.
