As someone who has been there many times over the past few years helping to take care of the pipe organ I can tell you that I would not pay that kind of money to see a show sitting on either a folding chair or a bleacher seat. There is no stage, no sloped floor, no lighting or anything else to deaden the sound. It’s a gym1 The first mez. is gone and the walls have been sheetrocked about 12 feet up. The 2nd and 3rd mez. are closed off. Thats what makes the organ sound so great. I thought about putting on an oldies show there years ago but I’ll wait and see if they take all that wood out and but seats back in. At this time no one knows for sure what they intend to do with the building. As for now, you would be listening to the music in an echo chamber. Sound bouncing all over the place. Sorry, I’ll put a show there only when the people can sit proper and hear proper.
Hey listen… A dance at the gym – it doesn’t get more ‘50’s rock and roll than that, does it? Particularly when that gym is the former Brooklyn Paramount and still retains some of its elaborate decor! I think it’s a great idea. I do agree, however, that the ticket prices are quite steep. At least at the $100 tier. How do they plan on setting up the seating? What is the demarcation between the $40 seats and the $100 seats?
Wow and that sucks. I remember just watching La Bamba again where they had a marquee that said Paramount with the cop on horseback riding by. Of course that’s a movie.
I would pay the $100 for a seat but I am sure that some older fart will be standing in front and dancing in his/her aisle of me as if they were the only one there.
Ahem. I’ve heard that comment before. It’s a concert. Stand up and enjoy yourself.
Exactly. If you can’t get up and dance at a concert, where can you? Funny, though… it’s usually the older farts who are asking other folks to sit down!
Its only Rock and Roll.
