This blog entry gives an interesting perspective on how movie theaters can soon follow music stores as a growing piece of nostalgia.
Imagine a world without movie theaters. No multiplexes. No arthouses. No way to communally experience a film.
That day may be coming sooner than you think. Each year theatrical box office receipts decline as the DVD becomes the preferred method for audiences to watch movies.

The Film Threat story says that “Tower Records recently announced that they are closing all of their stores and filing for bankruptcy.” I don’t believe this is accurate. At least, I can find no news story to confirm it.
I hope the rest of the story was better researched.
dont get me started on this subject………….theaters are here to stay………………………Last years decline in box office still made it the 4th highest grossing year ever……….
If there were no movie theatres, there would be no good movies. With no good movies, there would be declining DVD rental profits and we would be hopelessly lost.
It’s thosee damn talkies. I told you they would never catch on!

It looks like the Tower Records info mentioned in thr story has some gravity to it. This Hollywood Reporter/Reuters story seems to indicate the situation is more dire than in the 2004 bankruptcy.
Thanks. But it says nothing about “recently announced that they are closing all of their stores”. If they did that, there would be nothing left for a new owner to buy.
