Spielberg’s take on future of movie theaters

In an interview when trying to defend the difference in standards between television and film, Steven Spielberg mentioned where thinks the theater audience is going.
In a free-ranging hour of interview with former NBC News correspondent Garrick Utley and questions from the audience, Spielberg said iPod video may be all the rage but count his films out from tailoring his films to fit the small screen.
“That’s one medium where I have to draw the line,” he said. “We’ll shoot for television and the movies and let there be a wide gap” between that and the small 3-inch screen. He also said that he felt that people are social animals who will choose to go out to a movie rather than watch a show on widescreen.
“I don’t think movie theaters will ever go away,” Speilberg said.

Spielberg’s comments are hardly surprising given his bio and current status of one of Hollywood’s preeminent filmmakers. Does anyone honestly think that when he frames a shot, he’s thinking of how it will look on a 3" iPod video screen? He doesn’t seem to embrace digital projection as his friend George Lucas does. I am curious as to how they are going to film the upcoming and presumed last Indian Jones movie.
Movie theaters are here to stay as i have fought about for years on this site!
Movie theaters will stay if not all but most change their attitude towards the environment of the theater its self.
Movie theatres with one screen would the idea thing.But that will never happen.Lets cram all we can for a quick two week run then send it down to Theatre 14 in a 20 plex.Glad I am out of the business!
