“Reception At The Loew’s Paradise”

BRONX, NY — The Bronx Museum of the Arts will be hosting discussions on the Grand Concourse as well as walking tours of the area this Saturday. The closing reception will be held at the Loew’s Paradise theatre (The Bronx NYC). It will be fantastic. I shall be there with friends and neighbors.

Saturday, September 24
All day: Presentation of community charrette results at the Bronx Museum.
Free admission.

The Bronx Museum

Topic: LIVING TOGETHER AND APART: RACE AND HOUSING ON THE GRAND CONCOURSE
While the Grand Concourse symbolized hope and achievement for some, for others it signified exclusion. Hear the stories of how Jews, Blacks, and Latinos have lived together and struggled on the Grand Concourse.

Panelists will include Evelyn Gonzalez (author of The Bronx), Mark Naison (director, Bronx African-American History Project), and long-time Concourse residents and activists Jesse Davidson, Sam Goodman, and Julio Pabòn.

Co-sponsored by the Bronx African-American History Project, Fordham University.

Free admission.

1:00 – 2:30 & 3:30 – 5:00 pm
GRAND CONCOURSE WALKING TOURS
Starting at the Bronx Museum
Led by Evelyn Gonzalez and Sam Goodman, the tours will emphasize the avenue’s social as well as architectural history. The tour includes conversations with Concourse residents.

CLOSING RECEPTION
Loew’s Paradise Theater
2417 Grand Concourse bet. 187th St. and 188th St.

This 4000-seat movie palace, only smaller in size to Radio City Music Hall, became a mythical symbol of an era to Bronx residents. Divided up and then closed, the theater is scheduled to re-open in fall 2005. Enjoy light refreshments while previewing its newly restored splendor.

The Loew’s Paradise is also a place where people can meet new people and be social. The Loew’s Paradise is a place where people can be themselves, la times crossword and the Loew’s Paradise is also a place where people can be safe.
