LawfordTheatre asks:

Hello everyone! After having aquired a nice old 500 seat theatre and rescuing it, I have wanted to buy some more.

If any of you have any for sale, let me know. I would love to again restore a older theatre and welcome the chance to see if we can come to terms on the buying or leasing of it. Let me know.

Thanks!

Please check into the Roosevelt Theatre in Kenosha WI, which has just come up for sale through Bear Realty www.bearrealty.com (262) 694-2327. There are flanking storefronts and upper floors to provide extra income. The street is busy, and is WI Highway 50. Thanks!

We have a 60s multiplex here called the Quo Vadis. Though it is modern, I consider it to be rather interesting. It’s in Westland Michigan across from a mall. I can find out the real estate company that is listing it for you if you’d like, let me know.

The Lakewood Theatre in Lakewood, Wash. It is listed on this site. The company in charge of leasing it is First Western Properties in Tacoma, Wash. First Western’s phone number is 253-472-0404. It’s a great little single-screen theater. I would love to see it come back to life.

Well, Mr. LawfordTheatre, I’m not sure if your skills and resources extend to a full movie palace of about 2400 seats, but if so, click on my name at the bottom to get my Contact info. and E-mail me and mention the GRAND THEATRE in your subject line. I will reply by sending you data about it, a photo of it, and the contact address for the owner. This is in Milwaukee.

Hello, I know of a very old theater called Orpheum .It is in New Bedford Ma. I don’t know who ownes it or if it is for sale, but it’s just standing there doing nothing. They have knock everything down around it and sort of made a beginning of a highway in front of it. In other words, you can get on the highway right in front of it. It’s very large and I would love to go in it sometime. My Dad use to go there as a kid.It would be very sad to see it get knocked down.

Hope you might be interested in it.

Before you look into the Roosevelt, there is another theater in Kenosha you may want to look at. The Rhode, designed by George Rapp. Our building is open and functional, unlike most theaters of this era. Our problem is that our auditorium was divided into two sections. We have been told that we cannot qualify as a historical landmark because of this. Our grand lobby is spectacular with the original chandeliers, mosaic tiles and benches depicting scenes from Don Quixote. The building needs help with the roof and water damage to basement and the auditorium needs to be renovated. It is currently owned by a non-profit who can no longer afford to keep it going. I am on the board of directors for this theater and we need help now. We may have to sell and are very worried about developers snatching it up and demolishing. It is located downtown, which is coming back in a big way. New condos, restaurants and wine bars are on the same block. If you are not interested in helping, please recommend grant options. We are desperate to keep it going, but have not had much community support.

check it out, and if anyone has ideas for us please write!

I am a preservationist who is seeking parties of interest who will “save the day” for an endangered early 20th century theater of great historic merit in Queens, NY by Thomas Lamb. The theater is available for lease and possibly for purchase. Please e-mail me at your earliest convenience. I can be reached at for more information. Thanks!
