Lawford Theatre Wants Your Help

posted by Lawford on November 22, 2005 at 8:34 am

HAVANA, IL — Hello everyone, I am really glad to be a part of this community.

I recently aquired the Lawford Theater in Havana, IL, and went to work immediately painting, redoing the seats, carpeting, just about everything you can imagine! I even refurbished the screen, what a BEAUTIFUL theatre it is too.

This is where I am in need of ANY help. I need a good sound sytem that we can purchase (or better yet, donated) this town is really wild about the theatre re-opening, and they have supported it quite a lot. It’s too bad that others hurt the place so I am am putting all (or most) of my funds into it.

Can anyone out there help us in any kind of donations or sales, we even could use some hot dog warmers, etc! We are a 500 seat 1912 theater with a HUGE sound stage… thanks again for this wonderful site and its information!

It would be helpful to know what kind of sound equipment you have now. Specifically we need to know makes and models of:

soundhead
audio processor/preamp
monitor amplifier
power amplifier
screen speaker(s)
surround speakers (if present)

How about posting some pictures or a link to your website to see how your new acquisition looks? Before and after pictures, maybe?

I don’t know if tis will be any help, but Altec Lansing Used to be the ONLY speakers used in theatres, for a good reson too, they are the best. Altec stoped making the Voice of the Theatre speakers a while ago, but their are still many around and I think that thay have started making them again. This is their unofficial Hompage: alteclansingunofficial.nlenet.net/
You may also want to contact Carmike Cinemas. They are renovating theatres and may sell you the items that they no longer need. Their website is www.carmike.com
I hope this helps

Hi Lawford,

I just stumbled on a Ebay listing for this theater in Feb. Have you sold the theater after fixing it up?
