Arts Cinema Opening Within Historic Art Deco London Landmark

“Picturehouse Cinemas, operators of London’s favourite neighbourhood cinemas (Living London Awards as voted by LBC 97.3FM listeners ), announce the opening of their 19th venue The Olympia Cinema, located within the Olympia Exhibition complex in Kensington.

The cinema opens to the public on Friday July 23rd, and for the opening weekend all tickets to all films will be just £1 and there are also free previews of summer blockbusters, details of how to get tickets are available from the website www.picturehouses.co.uk.

The cinema will operate at the weekends, with a diverse programme of the cream of independent film, arthouse and quality mainstream, with a regular family film slot and niche programming to meet the needs of the multi cultural population of Kensington and Fulham, including screenings of the best of Iranian and Bollywood cinema.

The cinema is located in the Olympia Two building on Hammersmith Road, this much-loved Bauhaus inspired art deco masterpiece houses the luxurious stadium seated auditorium of the Olympia Cinema. Tha auditorium seats 450 and is equipped with dolby sr sound and full stage facilites.

In 1929 the Empire Hall was built on Hammersmith Road in Kensington as an extension of the highly successful Olympia Exhibition complex. This stunning bauhaus-inspired art deco leviathan was later renamed Olympia Two, and in 1987 the third level of the building was converted into the Olympia Conference Centre.

The cinema has a large lobby with leather sofas and is serviced by a fully licensed bar and cafe. While popcorn will naturally feature on the menu, the Olympia Cinema will be unique in the area in also offering a more healthy range of food than the competition."
