Now Playing… Artist George Rothacker’s Work

BERWYN, PA — This evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., InPrints Gallery will be hosting an opening for artist George Rothacker, who has created a series of beautiful paintings depicting classic movie theaters (see gallery below).

The series of 12 paintings and prints was begun in 1991 when Mr. Rothacker produced an edition of “Night Out in Media,” a painting depicting the then “dark” Media Theater, to stimulate interest in the 1927 movie house and raise money for its revitalization.

“I’ve grown up in the area all of my life,” said Mr. Rothacker. “My graduation from Upper Darby High School was held in the Tower Theater in 1965. I lived and have worked in Media for 30 years, and for the last 20 years I have lived in Villanova, about a mile from the Anthony Wayne. These theaters were part of my life, and its great to see them in operation and still viable.”
