Hello. I am writing a story on neighborhood theaters and their disappearance from the sf cityscape. If anyone was able to attend screenings on the final day of the Alexandria, I’d love to speak with them and get their feelings and a description of the atmosphere. I can be contacted by phone at 415-533-7822 or by email at I’d be happy to buy a drink for someone in exchange for answering a half a dozen or so questions.

So the theater will be demo’d? I encourage everyone to rally in the area, petition, chain yourself around the building! Do whatever we can do, we cant be losing things like these!
Did they really close? Funny, I didn’t hear a peep on TV or see this reported on The SF Chronicle. They must be really behind on this.
The only news outlet to do a story was KRON 4. You can see the video clip on their website at www.kron.com
this is such a shame. I grew up on 18th between Geary and Anza and now live on 18th between Geary and Clement (literally across the street from the theater’s parking lot), so the alexandria has been a part of my world for most of my life. i went there all the time to watch movies.
not sure what the plans are for the future, but there are large dumpsters in the parking lot and it appears that they are filled with theater seats. :(
The dumpsters with the red plush velvet seats were hauled away and today they are ripping out the seats from the upstairs auditoriums… :(
