Center Theatre Shows New Face on Main Street

DOVER-FOXCROFT, ME — With the installation of a new marquee, Center Theatre now proudly presents a new, or is it old, face on Main Street.

In current terms, one might call it retro. The new fixture was designed by Neocraft Signs of Lewiston, Maine and was installed on the facade on Friday, October 29th. The design is meant to recreate the look of the original marquee erected when the theatre was built in 1943. An official lighting “event” will be planned for the near future.

Installation of the marquee marks the end of our summer renovations, which also included the installation of a sprinkler system and a lighting catwalk above the stage, structural repairs to several of the concrete supporting piers below the auditorium, construction of a proscenium on stage and the addition of four entry doors at the back of the auditorium.

Renovations will continue through the winter months. A crew from the Charleston Correctional Facility will be back to install an insulated and finished floor, allowing us to place our theater seating. The ceiling will be left open, for the time being, and painted flat black. These projects are expected to be completed by April 2005 and promise expanded and more comfortable programming for the spring and summer.

Fundraising efforts continue and much work remains to be done, but with continued support and a little luck, we can continue our steady forward progress toward completion.
