BALTIMORE, MD — Thanks to the valiant efforts of Cinema Treasures user Ed Dobbins, we have another batch of photos from the Grand Theatre demolition site.

Ed, the photos are fantastic. They really capture the sad ending to the Grand. I really like the added touch at the front with the black flags, banner and hollywood figures. Thanks for braving the cold and putting in the hard work to bring all of us across the country the latest pics of the final days. I’ve been watching the demolition on the webcam here in Kansas City area and the Grand looks pretty solid to me, not the crumbling disaster it was said to be. Keep the pictures coming.
Ed, thank you for taking the pictures and for keeping all of us in the loop. The demolition of the Grand Theatre makes me sick. Is there any chance that you could e-mail me high res pictures? I would like to make a short documentary on theaters which have been torn down in the US. The Grand, unfortunately will be featured as it happening now — in 2004. I can’t believe that people are still tearing down theaters which don’t deserve to meet this fate. Do you have pictures or know of anyone else who has pictures of other theaters which have been torn down? The pictures can show the theater in its prime or in its last moments. I will make sure to give credit for the pictures. I am also looking for a list showing all of the theaters which have been destroyed. Is there such a thing? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Maria, what you are looking for is a book called “The Best Remaining Seats” by Ben M. Hall. It is full of photos taken of theaters in the U.S. just after they opened for business, so you can get a better idea of how they were intended to appear, before being neglected and becoming run down. Damian
