ALBUQUERQUE, NM — Some two years after reopening to the public on a limited basis, the El Rey Theatre is celebrating its grand reopening according to a report in the Daily Lobo.
The theater, located in the historic Puccini building, has just completed the first phase of a three phase restoration. As part of the initial phase, both the theater’s lobby and marquee (thanks to a federal grant) have been restored.
Grand reopening festivities are planned through the end of February, with numerous acts scheduled to appear at the El Rey, as well as a dedication ceremony with Albuquerque’s mayor, Martin Chavez.
