PHILADELPHIA, PA — Howard Haas, Chairman of Save the Boyd, writes:

Volunteers from the Friends of the Boyd visited the Sameric Boyd theater on August 7, 2003, and discovered, underneath two levels of recent upholstery, the original 1928 upholstery on one of the chairs in the balcony!

A spectacular find, the original upholstery is in an Art Deco pattern which was applauded in a 1929 trade magazine article about the Boyd. Photos of the 1928 chair and upholstery, along with other new photos (including art deco metalwork and glass), can be found on our website.

The Friends of the Boyd is the nonprofit organization working to save and restore Philadelphia’s last movie palace.
