Regent Theatre to Close January 28

ADELAIDE, AUSTRALIA — According to a report in the Adelaide Advertiser, the Regent Theatre will close January 28, due to a dispute between the Hoyts theater chain and the building’s landlord, St. Peter’s College.

The closure comes as a surprise to the Regent’s landlord, according to Paul Fielding, business director for St. Peters:

“I still haven’t got their sign-off to withdraw from their tenancy,” he said. “But, in any case, it’s a sudden thing and we haven’t got our mind around what you do with a large empty space like that.”

NO! What a magnificant theatre… closing is the first step to demolishing, don’t let it happen…

With only aproximately 250 theatre organs in the whole world, there should be a great effort to preserve these great places!!

Please understand the photo above does not represent the regent as it is today. it was tripled in the 70s and only some of the auditorium was kept.
Yes the arch and the front of the balcony, but the rest was cut into horrible tunnel cinemas. I don’t have an updated photo, maybe somene from KINO in Australia does? Please post it to avoid the confusion evident from comments above.

I think the theater should be run by another cinema chain. It is in a prime position and with good advertising attendance numbers can be improved to ensure that the theater stays open.
