Opened as the Route 6 Drive-In on May 28, 1948 with Lucille Ball in “Her Husband’s Affair” & Roy Rogers in “On the Spanish Trail”. On October 6, 1950 it screened Alan Ladd in “Captain Carey, U.S.A.” & William Holden in “Dear Wife”. By 1953 it was operated by Liggett-Florin Ct. Route 6 was later renamed Route 46 and the drive-in was renamed accordingly. The Route 46 Drive-In was in Saddle Brook, NJ on Route 46 West, to the west of Lodi Circle and south of Rochelle Park. There is a strip mall there now with a McDonalds and Walmart. The screen was around the right and back of the Walmart building. During the day it substituted as a Motor Vehicle Inspection Center.

When did this close and when was it demolished?
Anyone know anything about the Paramus drive in? It’s not listed on this site as far as I know…

Route 46 – may have been known as the Saddle Brook Drive In:

In this 1963 ad, courtesy of Bill Huelbig, the theater is referred to as the Route 46 Drive In:

Note the location – “West of the Lodi circle”.
In this ad from April 1964, check out the classy features playing at the Route 46. I think people really were smarter back then :) In fact all 5 drive-ins had quite a selection of good movies to choose from:

I love looking at those ads.Theatre business has certainly changed for the worst.
Approx. address for this drive-in was 189 U.S. 46.
The address is 189 US Highway 46, Saddle Brook, NJ which places it right in the middle of where the drive-in was located. This would be on the NE or back side of the property well away from the street.
From aerial photos, the drive-in was still present in 1970, but by 1979 it had been demolished.
Today, a Wal-Mart sits where the drive-in was located. Nothing remains, save arguably for the outline that is on three sides of the Wal-Mart. http://tinyurl.com/ycz22lpf
Opened as 1950 as the Route 6 Drive-in. Route 6 became Route 46 later on.
