The Orpheum Theatre was opened in 1908, presenting vaudeville. It also featured movies, roller skating and baseball. In the 1920’s it went over to movies with 635-seats. A photo of the exterior of this small, Main Street movie house appeared in the January 7, 2005 issue of The New York Times (page F7). The Orpheum Theatre has been triplexed, with “Ocean’s Twelve”, “Lemony Snickit”, and “Meet the Fockers” advertised on the marquee. The screens seat 138, 145 & 138. It was closed on March 17, 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It was purchased from the Thornton family who had owned it for 103-years, by Upstate Films who had recently closed their Tinker Street, Woodstock operation. The Orpheum Theatre reopened on November 1, 2021.
Saugerties is situated on the west side of the Hudson River in Ulster County, about 110 miles north of New York City.

Hi Jacker, the Community theatre is actully in Catskill, N.Y. I usually stay in Cairo (just a few miles away) and wrongly listed the theatre’s location in the above comment. I don’t know if the Community theatre is still for sale. You might try calling some of the realtors in Catskill. I doubt the Orpheum theatre is for sale (it’s a money maker) but then the owner is a senior and might want to retire. You might want to persue it further. A lot can change in 3 years which is when I last talked to the owner.

This theatre is not for sale any longer. It was purchased and is ow enjoying a revival. All summer long they ran a special Independent film series along with their usual booking of current Hollywood films. robbie
The Orpheum Theatre is listed in the American Motion Picture Directory;1914-1915 edition, as is the Opera House. So both must have been showing movies at that time.
Saw this theatre on a bike trip two weeks ago, but I saw it at night. Quaint.
The Orpheum does not have a website but it does now have a Facebook page.
We are listed under the Orpheum Theatre – Saugerties NY. There are pictures of the theatre now and some vintage photos as well.
Looks like the Orpheum went through an adult phase. IMDB says the movie’s from 1982.
The Orpheum Saugerties has been closed for the duration of the epidemic. The theatre was listed for sale in the fall of 2021. local press reports suggest the price was around $800k. https://hudsonvalleyone.com/2019/10/31/saugerties-orpheum-theater-up-for-sale/
In early May 2021 there were reports that the new management of Upstate Films, having given up their lease on the former Tinker Street Cinema in Woodstock, were in talks to with the owners of the Orpheum Saugerties. https://www.dailyfreeman.com/local-news/upstate-films-looks-to-buy-orpheum-theatre-in-saugerties/article_bbf7809e-addd-11eb-8887-07201d2344dc.html
Now open and showing movies. Including one of the greatest of all time, celebrating its 50th anniversary, as you can see in the photo I just posted.
