The Buckhorn Drive-In opened in 1948 and closed in 1986. It had a capacity for 300 cars.

Looks like the ticket booth was moved at some point between ‘84 and '86 when it closed….
My 1956 Motion Picture Almanac lists parking for 300 cars and was owned by H.C. Gunter.
Mike could you sent me a copy of your Motion Picture Almanac or tell me where to get one, interesting stuff!!!!
I found 1963 and 1970 editions for $5 apiece at a used book store. Larry Edmunds Cinema Bookstore in Hollywood has a 1935 FDY, but they want $125 for it. Amazon also has some for sale online.
THE MOTION PICTURE ALMANAC is about the Size of the novel WAR&PEACE so it is quite big and heavy. I found mine along with another that i GAVE to a friend in TAmpa. Found them in the City Managers office in the old MILLER THEATRE, Augusta.

I also got photos of the remains of the concession/projection booth of ‘The Coyote’ drive-in in Alice. This one was also operated by ‘The Buckhorn’ owner H.C. Gunter.
I also got photos of ‘The Ranch’ drive-in location. Not much there anymore. This one was once operated by the Garza Brothers and Solis Brothers. It is remembered around Alice as the one that showed spanish language films.
Does anyone have a photo of the “Now Showing” type sign that used to be mounted at the corner of TX 44 and Texas avenue?
There was a drive up convenience type store shaped like a piece of pie, and the sign was attached to the building end, facing west.
We spent a lot of weekends visiting the grandmother in Alice, but never went to see a movie at the Buckhorn.

I have a scan of the Duval County Facts for Friday, September 28th, 1956, showing the movies that were showing at The Ranch Drive Inn, The Regis theater in San Diego, and “The Coyote” drive inn.
I’d like to post them under their respective theaters, though they no longer exist.
The scan is an accident. The reverse side of the paper is the obit for my maternal grandfather. I remember seeing the remains of a drive in movie screen for years, to the south side of TX 44 as we were driving to San Diego. I guess this was the Coyote.

In 2015, the tower, ticket booth and projection booth were torn down. However, the concession stand remains standing surrounded by the storage buildings. The land was still for sale in 2016.
