This opened in the 1940’s as the Grove Theatre, in space that was originally the stage house of the Fox Redlands Theatre. The conversion was carried out by architect Clifford A. Balch. It had its own separate entrance and marquee at the rear of the main building.
Last known as the Rainbow Theatre, it was gutted in the summer of 2003 and has been converted into a restaurant.

Here is a June 20, 2009 photograph I took of the Rainbow/Grove:

Photos of the marquee and auditorium of this splendid little Art Moderne theatre can be seen in this Boxoffice article from December 6, 1941. There is also a ground-floor plan of the Grove and its parent theater, the Redlands, which shows the relationship between the two houses.
Google maps lists a Fox Theatre at this address now. They could be wrong though, anybody know?
The Rainbow is technically part of the Fox Redlands building.
O.K. Thanks Monika.
I added the site plan showing both theatres in this page’s photo section.
In its later years it was a two-screen operation.
I spent many hours watching films here as a kid in the summer time. I loved the lobby and always wished for a full restoration. Now, I am in the business of restoring theaters (evergreene.com) but missed out on this opportunity. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for the Rainbow.
