This neighborhood house opened as the Plaza Theatre in January 1917. It was closed in 1929. It had reopened by 1935 when it was part of the Schine Circuit Inc. As the neighborhood declined, the auditorium space became filled with a convenience store.
Recently the Plaza Theatre has been renovated and returned to use as a theatre. It is now known as the Dazzle Center for the Performing Arts. It sees use as a small for rent space available for amateur performances and exhibits. The small auditorium is lined with Ionic pilasters, which apparently are original to the interior.

The plaza was open prior to 1925 and was no longer listed as open in 1931 but shows as open in 1935.
Architect was Michael DeAngelis. Seating was originally 500. Architectural style is actually Italian Renaissance. Was owned in the late ‘20s by Major L. J. Waterbury, who also owned the Staley in Rochester.
The theater was also known as the Webster Theater.
The first ad for the Plaza Theatre is in January of 1917 which could be when it opened. It closed in 1929 without converting to sound. On November 28, 1939 as the improved Plaza Theatre relaunched with “Kentucky” and “Pride of the Navy.”
This theater was built too early to have DeAngelis as architect. Could this have been a Lempert project. DeAngelis did many remodel/modernization of Lempert theaters and may have been a Lempert protege.
