The Vogue is operating daily with 2 screens, the main auditorium has 187 seats, the second screen has seating for 45. Recently (June 2014) the main auditorium had a permanent screen installed, replacing the temporary screen that had been in place since Dec. 2013.
The Vogue is once again operating in Manistee. Currently 1 screen is operating, as the renovation continues a second screen should open in late winter 2014.
This undated news item from the Northwest Council of Michigan Governments says that the Vogue Theatre was being gutted, though some architectural features and fixtures were to be preserved and used in the rebuilt theater. Presumably, the historic exterior will be restored, but the remainder of the project will be a rebuild rather than a restoration.
Michael Moore announced today that he is helping, along with the Manistee DDA and Manistee County Alliance For Economic Success, to re open this beautiful theater and run it as a non profit organization.

I grew up in Manistee and saw a lot of movies at the Vogue. I remember it closing and re-opening all the time. I was never sure why it couldn’t stay in business b/c it’s the ONLY theater in Manistee, and the only one for 45 min in any direction. Given all the changes to the town over the past decades we’re lucky it’s still around.
I’ve had a fantasy off and on of getting the Vogue registered as a historical building, or figuring out how to get it 5013c status, and expanding its lineup into more (any) indie films. I know if I was summering or wintering in Manistee and nearby areas, I’d hit the Vogue at least once a week if it was playing the newest indie stuff (or even if it showed classical stuff).
I’ve often wondered if Michael Moore would be a logical/helpful connection to have toward that goal, given his connection to Northern MI and support of the film festival in Traverse City.

The above statement is true.
If you are curious as to the seemingly endless ups and downs as to the runing of this theatre, there is a summary of the theatres history, business wise at myspace.com/voguetheatre in the “about me” section.
As of 6-25-07, the Vogue is closed again. Operators couldn’t make an agreement with the owner of the building, and they have ceased operation as their one-year lease is up.
I would like to make a public apology for my rant above. Also a formal request to have my post removed.
I was unintentionally privvy to a private email, snooped where I shouldnt have snooped and then I took facts from that email, enhanced them, and posted them on this site.
I apoligize to anyone who I may have hurt or gotten in trouble, and i thank you so much for removing my post.

Im so glad this board is moderated…anyone could come in here and post whatever. I could claim that a certain theatre has dead corpses stowed in the projection booths, and that the smell of the fetid decaying bodies makes the movie expeirence nasueaus. BTW, my apparent inability to READ caused me to mistake the word “pop” as “poop” which added a whole new dimension to how it came across to me.
THEATRELOVINGGUY couldnt you have handled your complaints in a more professional way than posting on here? And no the entire staff is not under the age of 25.
OVERTHEHEDGE We DO get some older people who come several times a week, but you have to understand, we are a smallish town without malls etc. so there isnt really a lot to do.

Wow, you go there 4 times a week? That means you watch the same movie 2 times a week till it changes Hummmmm NO wonder you eves drop so much.
I really enjoy going to this Movie House. When it first opened I was skeptical about the staff since the oldest person that works there is probably 25. But the entire staff has always treated me professionally etc.I go there several times a week.
I will however say I dont think too much of their manager.
I dont think he cares about the Movie House. I have been in the Vogue repeatedly when his staff members are approaching him with queries as to how to solve a problem, and he just stares at them and shrugs.
I was in the Movie House last week and saw a huge pile of trash and garbage bags and cans out in the lobby for everyone to see. It smelled awful and pop was oozing out of the bags and trickeling (sp?) down through the lobby out the front door.(The lobby is on a slant)
I hear one of the staff memberrs ask if there was something that could be done to get rid of the garbage and the manager shrugged and said not really and it had to stay there since he hadnt gotten “around” to taking care of it on trash day.
Later on in the week I went there again and the pile was STILL there, and an employee was once again mopping up the seepage.
I think someone really needs to talk to this young man, or he needs to heed the advice of his employees.
As far as I can tell the managers day consists of doing as little as possible and sitting at the tables all day playing with stacks of cards.
I have been at the Movie House and overheard him tell employees that he is going to close early because he doesn’t think anyone will show up.
My other complaint is that apparently the manager doesnt think it is important to heat the Movie House.
I’m an older guy, what if I had bad bones etc and caught chills easily?
I just enjoy going to this Movie House and jope they are able to fix the management issues.

The people who are running now are just leasing it.
They want to buy it but dont know if the owner will sell it. hes weird.
This theater is still showing for sale on loopnet ….verify as of sept 12 2006………seems strange
The Vogue Theatre was operated by the Butterfield Michigan Theaters Co. which was one of the subsidiary companies that Paramount Pictures Theatre chain operated. During the 40’s the Lyric, Ramsdell and Vogue were the part of that chain. As of 1960 the Vogue Theatre was still operated by Butterfield Michigan Theaters (Butterfield Circuit) which at that time was no longer a Paramount subsidiary. As for the records I have in front of me, the Vogue was still part of Butterfield chain into the 1980’s.
