Globe Theatre

The Globe Theatre, a 720-seat theatre which stood on Market Street, originally opened in 1910. Nine years later, the theatre was redesigned by the architectural firm of Hoffman-Henon Co. The Globe Theatre closed in 1935 and by 1939 it had reopened as an African-American theatre. It was still open in 1947. It has since been razed.

According to Philadelphia Architects and Buildings, Anderson & Haupt were the original architects of the Globe Theatre.

Not sure if there may have been 2 Globe Theaters since this 5901 Market Street address doesn’t appear to match up with the corresponding photos and other documents which show a Globe Theater at the NE corner of Market & Juniper (the 1300 block of Market) directly across from City Hall in Center City.

Pepperama: I have added a page for the Globe Theatre at Market Street & N. Juniper Street, also a Globe Theatre in the Point Breeze district on S. 17th Street.
