The Sierra Theater in Alamogordo was opened May 3, 1956. The theatre was donated to the Flickenger Center for Performing Arts by Margaret Flickenger in 1988, who had acquired the old movie house for the non-profit arts group.
A $200,000 renovation in 1992 created an orchesta pit, a new stage, dressing rooms and a new sound system. Beginning in 2003, the Flickenger Center began another renovation project.
The 675-seat theater today hosts a variety of performing arts, including concerts, dance, orchestra, and youth theater. The Flickenger is also host to the Miss New Mexico pageant and is also available for rental for special events.
