In 1909 the Co-Operative Amusement Company, composed of over 100 stockholders, largely businessmen and professionals from the East Side, built a “fireproof” movie theatre in Buffalo. It was called the Savoy Theatre and had 925-seats. The architect was Henry L. Spann and the Savoy Theatre was built at an estimated cost of $65,000. In 1927 the management purchased an organ to accompany silent movies. They chose to buy a Link organ, from the Link factory in Binghamton. By 1934 it had been taken over by the Basil Brothers chain and the seating capacity was increased to 1,154.
The Savoy Theatre was renamed the Roxie Theatre and on February 2, 1938 it was renamed Roxy Theatre. The Roxy Theatre was still open in 1956, but had closed by 1957.

back in the day the 70s when I was a teenager I remember this place was used for a neighborhood urban newspaper the challenger. the building it self is in great shape I really wish it can be used again like a underground retro film place for art and foreign films.
Listings as Roxy started on February 2nd, 1938, in the Basil listings.
