The Stony Brook was one of the first in the wave of the more deluxe multiplexes built. It was opened with 15 screens on December 23, 1998 by Loew’s/AMC. An IMAX theatre was opened on February 27, 2009. By January 2006 anther two screen (originally built in 1998 but not opened) were opened making it a 17-screen theatre with 3,083-seats.

It has been a very well kept theatre.

Remember the day you just went to a movie? Now they have all these bells and whistles and charge you an arm and a leg.

The recliners are among the worse “innovation” that chains are adding to their facilities. I avoid them like the plague. They decrease the seating and increase the cost of attending. If I had my dithers there would be no food allowed.

Hell must have frozen over, the long awaited auditorium remodels have begun. I’ve been told it’ll take a year, with the initial goal of having rooms 1 and 2 (IMAX) complete by Spring 2019. Staff thinks all rooms will get recliners, but aren’t 100% sure, given that some of the smaller rooms would be left with less than 50 seats as a result.

I don’t see what the big deal is with recliners. I’d just as soon see most movies on my home TV when they become available for less money and be able to sit in my PJs and eat my own snacks rather than having somebody running around serving food while I’m trying to watch the movie. Plus, I wouldn’t have to drive 15 miles to the closest theater. Ah, for the good old days when each community had it’s own theater and you could walk to it.

Please update, Also, IMAX theatre opened February 27, 2009 with Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience. First IMAX Theatres in Suffok County, open the same day as Regal Deer Park.

Also, AMC and Loews merged, using AMC as the brand name and it open in 1998 with 15 screens. 2 auditoriums weren’t open at Grand Opening due to the county wasn’t crazy about 17 screens in their neighborhood.. A few years later, Loews and the county got the ok to open the remaining two screens.

Only a handful of screens are open right now, so I went searching and found the link below which indicates a major upgrade is in process. The AMC dine in in Levittown has a “Laser at AMC” tag now.
