This eight screener replaced the Budco Cheltenham Theatre a twin screen, which had opened in 1961 by RKO-Stanley-Warner and was acquired by AMC when they took over the Budco Chain, closing it in 1987.
The new eight screen was opened by United Artists at the mall on April 14, 1989. First run movies were shown. After United Artists departed bankrupt in 2001 it was taken over by Regal. The multiplex was reopened January 13, 2006 by King’s Theatres as the Movies At Cheltenham Square 8. The theatre was closed in early-2008, before the end of March and was demolished. It was replaced by a Target store.

The REG Cheltenham Square 8 Theatre has a new name. It is now called: Movies At Cheltenham Square. This new theatre opened on 1/13/2006. This theatre should be updated with the new name.
I had someone inquire. The new operator told us they run another theater at or near Harrisburg, PA. I don’t think this theater is stadium seated, so with audiences flocking to theaters that are stadium seated, Regal must have decided to not renew the lease, and the shopping mall operator must have looked for another theater operator.

This theater is NOT in Cheltenham, it’s in Philadelphia. The zip code is correct though — 19150. (Lynnewood Gardens).

FYI UA went bankrupt in 2001 not 2006. Much like GCC and Century heaters. Mann went out of business when Ted Mann died in 2000. Cineplex went belly up in 2004. Just so you know…🤭🤭😍
