Ken Mc loved that story on “AN UNMARRIED WOMAN” i am a Jill Clayburg fan and liked the movie, but To bring a blind date to that movie.LOL. I noticed another Carmike theatre closing.
Here is an excerpt from a Grand Forks Herald story in September 2000:
An informed source at Carmike Cinemas confirmed Thursday that the Plaza Twin theater, South Forx Plaza, could be closing as soon as next week. Plaza Twin would join hundreds of other small theaters across the United States that have been closed in the past year. Carmike filed for bankruptcy soon afterward. Moody’s downgraded the debt of Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corp., AMC Entertainment Inc., Carmike Cinemas Inc. and Regal Cinemas.
Was there in 1999 and noticed it is was first run, but it usually got the movies after they had hit both Carmike 10 and Columbia 4 and usually within weeks of the movie being released on video. May have been remodeled since and turned into another store. Haven’t been to GF since just before it closed.
I think the status on this one is closed.
I saw “An Unmarried Woman” on a blind date in 1978. This was not a good blind date movie. Jill Clayburgh vomiting on the street after her husband cheated on her didn’t set the most romantic mood for the rest of the evening.
This was my neighborhood theater growing up – I remember the first movies to play here when it opened where “The Poseidon Adventure” in Plaza 1 and “Avanti” in Plaza 2. I later worked as an usher and spent many long hours watching movies from the 70s. I remember the movie the most people walked out of was “An Unmarried Woman” back in 1978.
It was a pretty shitty little theater, but I had some good times there.
