This theatre in the center of Provincetown has two screens and features mostly art-house programming. The auditoriums are simple and bland, but the programminmg is excellent, and this is one of the area venues that is host to the annual Provincetown Film Festival. The nearby New Art Cinema 3 is in the Whalers Wharf Building just down the street to allow for an additional screen that could not be fit into the original theatre.

I like this place a lot. I’m bike-backpacking and am currently in P-town. I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory last night and it’s a great theatre with great sound! There’s cafes and such to either side before you walk in and there’s a small concession in the middle wiht theatres to each side and the bathrooms are nice, too. It’s nicely air-conditioned and it would kick on every once in a while as it was on a timer but it didn’t interrupt the movie sounds at all.
By the way, I asked the workers and each theatre has 150 seats for a total of 300. Cinema 3 has 72 seats but they are shorthanded and Cinema 3 only has one movie time per day.
I met the owner of the bistro next door to the theater in the same complex on the beach the other day. She lives in West Hartford, CT and her friend runs her place. I heard the other day from a local about a rumor to close the theater next year and put in a restaurant to utilize the big space in back for a patio. What a shame since it’s very popular. The rumor is Cinema 3 will be it.
The place is now a café and bar, with the cinema auditoriums now used for Theatre Go Round events.

The only change in the auditoriums is the installation of stages and light from the live performances. The place is probably bring in more money with 2 and 3 shows in each of the two auditoriums. When I was there most shows were going clean ant $25 a pop. Still the ame old seating when it was showing movies.
In that case, the name of the theatre should be changed here at CinemaTreasures, and the function changed to “Live Performances”.
With this converted to live shows, is there any place left to see a movie in Ptown?
Yes, the New Art Cinema 3, in the mall across Commercial Street, upstairs at what used to be the Provincetown Theatre decades ago. It’s a single screener. They have been showing Michael Moore’s SiCKO.
Was this theater always a two-screener, or was it built as a single and later twinned?
