Located in the outer northwest Saint-Germain-en-Laye district of Paris. The Royal was opened as a single screen cinema in 1951. It was designed by architect M. Peynet in a Streamline Moderne style and had seating in orchestra and balcony levels. In 1968 it was divided into 5 screens and was renamed C2L Saint Germain by its operator, the UCG chain.
