The Majestic Theatre was a movie house showing silent movies from its opening August 27, 1907. Run by Mike Hanley. Demolished in 1912 to make way for the Lyceum Theatre (later State Theatre) which has its own page on Cinema Treasures.

This is the first time I have ever read that a theatre was demolished to make way for another theatre!

The Lyceum is not listed on CT.

“Mike Hanley, six feet tall, and large of frame, always wore a 10 gallon hat as he walked back and forth in front of his movie house, The Majestic… inviting the public to come in and see his pictures. reminding them that it was just 5 or 10 minutes until the next showing began.”

The Lyceum eventualy became the infamous State Theater famous throughout the fifties and sixties as a live Burlesque house.

The August 27, 1907 local paper lists the opening of the Lyceum at this address.
