State Theatre

Built on the site of the Majestic Theatre, which was closed and demolished in 1912 (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Lyceum Theatre was opened on January 13, 1913 with vaudeville. By 1929 was operating a movie theatre and had been taken over by the Young Amusement Company, It was still open in 1931 (when it had been equipped for ‘talkies’, but by 1932 had been renamed State Theatre. In its later days it was a burlesque theatre in the 1950’s and 1960’s. It went over to screening adult movies and was closed by the authorities in 1972.

This opened as the Lyceum on January 13th, 1913. Grand opening ad posted.

Closed in 1929 and reopened as the State Theatre on March 31st, 1934. Grand opening ad posted.
