Loew's West - grand opening ad July 13, 1966

Loew’s opened this 1,200-seat theatre, in the Rockport Plaza shopping center, in 1966. The theatre was twinned in the 1970’s, and closed in 1995. A Family Toy Warehouse store occupied the theatre space afterward, but became vacant around 2000, after Family Toy Warehouse went out of business.

It was demolished in late-2008.

Both Loew’s East and Loew’s West are mentioned in the company’s
1966 annual report.

The report also has a photo of the mayor of Rocky River cutting a tape at the opening ceremony for this theatre.

The building that was once Loew’s West has recently been demolished, along with the southern leg of the L-shaped Rockport Plaza. The vacant Target store remains (why?) as does the eastern side of the original plaza. There is no sign indicating any future redevelopment.

Nice 1984 photo, the neon LOEWS sign looked like the ones on the Loews Melrose in Nashville, Tennessee.
