When Hurricane Alicia wiped out the Brazos Twin in August 17, 1983, a new hardtop was created in 1984 near the Brazos Mall called the Plitt Lake Jackson Cinemas 4. Their projectionist was the the suddenly available Frank Nevil who had been projecting films since the silent era (!) starting at Humble’s Star Theatre.

The Plitt Lake Jackson began in 1984 as a stand alone cinema. Cineplex Odeon took over the Plitt locations effective on November 26, 1985. In a number of locations, the venues were converted to Cineplex Odeon, some used both names for a period, and here they just remained Plitt. Plitt changed the venue’s name to the Brazos Mall 4 and tweaked that to the Plitt Brazos Mall 1-4 in 1986 after they launched the interior Plitt Brazos Mall 5-7.

In June of 1990, Carmike took on a handful of Cineplex Odeon locations including both Brazos Mall locations. (Carmike made its bigger move and acquired 145 Cineplex screens in May of 1995 during the megaplex era boom.) Carmike changed the names of the two facilities to the Carmike Brazos Mall 4 and the Carmike Brazos 3 Triple.

Carmike sprinted away away at the 15-year mark of the Brazos Mall 4 closing on December 30, 1999 with “Best Man”, “Man on the Moon”, “Talented Mr. Ripley”, and (Four Screens in) “The World is Not Enough.” The venue sat all the way until April of 2016 when it was demolished. A new hotel was built in its place.
