The Electric Theatre was a storefront nickelodeon, originally operated by M. B. Huckins, who would later open the Lyric Theatre nearby. Situated on the north side of Newton’s Courthouse Square, it was in operation by 1908 and appears on a 1911 Sanborn map at 120 McDonald Street, since renamed 2nd Avenue W.

By 1914 it was being listed next door, at 122 McDonald. New, larger movie theatres were being opened in Newton by the late-1910’s, leading to the demise of storefront houses such as the Electric Theatre by the mid-1920’s. Both of the buildings the Electric Theatre occupied are still standing, and are in retail use.
